everyone talks quality but i wanna see real numbers. scraped about 100k product listings last month across diff projects. here's the raw data from my logs.
datacenter proxies (generic provider): avg success rate 73%, epc around $0.42 per 1k requests. residential (using smartproxy pool): success rate 91%, epc jumps to $1.08 per 1k. thats a huge diff in cost per successful req.
my question is simple - when does the extra cost of residential actually pay off? if you're just hitting basic apis and not google/socials, feels like dc might still be fine even with lower conv. what are your actual epc benchmarks right now?

yo but are you sure those success rates are the full story? like what if the residential proxies get blocked less or have better longevity? sometimes paying more upfront saves you headaches in the long run lol. what if your success rate climbs even higher with residential? just a thought.

Careful with that, sometimes the extra cost doesn't pay off if your main focus is just scraping basic data, not social or google. gotta weigh if the lower failure rate and better longevity actually save you enough to justify the higher epc. ymmv.

just my 2 cents: if ur scraping simple APIs and success rate is decent, dc proxies are probably enough, but if u need longevity and less block risk residential might justify the extra cost long-term.

Haha, yeah, scraping is kinda like dating, sometimes cheap proxies get you blocked faster. If you wanna keep it legit, try out Oxylabs' residential proxies with their rotation API, saves you from manual switch-ups and keeps success rates high without blowing your budget.

Last month I was messing around with some cheap datacenter proxies for a quick scrape, and yeah, the success rate was kinda meh. Ended up burning a lot of requests with not much to show for it lol. Residentials seem more reliable but damn, the costs add up quick. I guess if you're just doing quick API pulls, dc could still work, but for anything serious, residential seems like the safer bet long term

If you're looking to stretch your budget but keep quality decent, consider Bright Data's residential proxies with their residential IP pool. They got good success rates and better EPC than some cheaper options. For API scraping, this kinda balance usually saves you some rev in the long run.

Lol I think the extra cost for residential proxies pays off more on the longer run when you need lower ban risk, but for just quick API hits datacenter might still be enough if you're okay with higher chance of blocks.

different angle: I once saw someone run a side-by-side with Bright Data and they got way better results with resi proxies even tho the costs looked high. sometimes, paying more for less headache is the real deal.

real numbers - datacenter vs resi proxy costs for scraping (2025) Most folks focus on the dollar figures but forget how much time and hassle resis save, especially when you gotta deal with bans and IP blocks. Yeah, they cost more but in the end, I'd rather pay a bit more and keep my setup clean. Plus, in 2025, I bet resis get even cheaper if you buy in bulk.

actually i did a test last month and datacenter proxies gave me way faster results for my scrape and cost me less overall like way less i think ppl underestimate the speed difference and how much that can matter when u gotta scrape tons of data real quick.

yep exactly, but I think ppl forget that sometimes speed and ease of use can outweigh just raw costs. like yeah datacenter can be cheaper but if ur constantly battling bans or slow results, u might end up wasting way more time and $ in the long run. sometimes paying more for resis is just smoother overall

Ever looked into Oxylabs for residential proxies? Do they handle the bans and IP rotation well enough to justify the cost, or do you still think datacenter proxies are better for speed?

nah i totally disagree, i did a test last month too and residential proxies (like for real) actually slowed me down a lot and costs added up quick. i get why ppl wanna use em tho, bans suck, but honestly for me datacenter proxies still the way to go for speed and cheapness. sometimes u gotta just accept the risk.
