Lost some cash trying direct deals again, advice?

So I went back to the direct advertiser route after swearing off it last year because of the usual horror stories. Thought maybe I could cut out the middlemen, get better payouts, and finally crack the code. Turns out no, I just burned a chunk of budget on a deal that looked promising but turned into a total nightmare. Payments got delayed, then ghosted, then the advertiser disappeared like a fart in the wind. Now I got a lander that's barely converting and a pile of wasted spend. Tried to negotiate better terms, but they just kept stalling and ghosting. Classic. Honestly, I get why some of you swear by networks. The traffic, the tracking, the support it's all a lot more predictable. Going direct feels like walking into a jungle with no map, and I'm no explorer. Has anyone cracked the code on making direct deals actually work without losing their shirt? Or am I better off just sticking with the familiar network grind and dodging the landmines? Would love some real talk here, not the usual bs. Thanks in advance

Look, I get the allure of going direct, thinking it's some magic shortcut. But honestly, most of those horror stories are just beginners who think they can walk into the jungle without a machete and expect to find gold. I've done the network grind for years because at least they've got some semblance of control, tracking, and a safety net. Trying to crack a deal without experience is like jumping into the deep end without knowing how to swim. The landmines are there, and most of us blow our budget before we figure out how to step around them.

TL;DR - direct is a gamble, always. Some folks crack it, most just blow cash. Best move IMO is to keep your eye on the networks and maybe test a PBN or two if you wanna go off-script.

Honestly, I think people are too quick to romanticize the direct route. It's like trying to date a ghost, right? You chase after the promise of better payouts, but all you get is ghosted and a pile of wasted spend. Show me the numbers, and I'll tell you if that lander was worth it or if you just danced with a scammer in disguise. Most of the time I see guys jumping into direct deals thinking they're gonna crack the code with a handshake, but what they don't realize is it's more like playing roulette with your ad budget. Automation is key here - manual outreach, negotiations, and hoping for the best? That's a waste of life, and frankly, I'd rather scrape data than play hide and seek with flaky advertisers. The truth is, unless you have a way to vet these deals beforehand, you're basically throwing darts blindfolded. Networks at least give you some predictability - tracking, support, decent payout structures. With direct deals, you better be ready to get burned a few times before you get one that sticks. My advice? Keep your data tight, automate the outreach, and treat direct like a bonus play, not your bread and butter. If you wanna dance with the jungle, at least bring a machete, not just a hope and a prayer

Look, most guys chasing direct deals are just trying to pet a unicorn. It's a landmine maze, and if you don't have a reliable lander and tight control, you're just throwing money into a bonfire. Stick to networks unless you like playing Russian roulette with your budget.

Honestly, I gotta push back on that a bit. Numbers are important, sure but they're only part of the story. You can look at a lander and see the CTR, LTV, all the metrics, but if it's not aligned with your traffic and your GEO, then those numbers might be just smoke and mirrors. Sometimes a lander can look like a winner on paper but tank because of the offer mismatch or bad creatives. I've seen campaigns that barely looked good on stats but still converted well in the real world because the landing experience was seamless. And about scammers in disguise yeah, I get it. But not all "bad" landers are scams. Sometimes it's just a matter of testing and tweaking.

hold my coffee. You're saying direct is a gamble but so is the network grind, right? (No kidding) I'd bet most of those "success" stories are just guys lucky enough to have a reliable lander and some legit control.

Honestly, I think people are way too quick to praise the network grind like it's some safety net. Sure, it's predictable but that also means it's boring and often locked in a box. Direct deals can be a total pain but when you get it right, the payouts are glow-up level. You just gotta be ready to fight for control, have a real solid lander and know your traffic like your own reflection. Sometimes you gotta risk the jungle to find the treasure.

Thought maybe I could cut out the middlemen, get b
funny you should say that, but cutting out middlemen sounds great until you realize most of those deals are just a ticking time bomb.

no middlemen, no support, no backup if things go sideways. if you think you can navigate that jungle alone, good luck.

Been there, done that. If they're ghosting you on negotiations, you're probably wasting your time. You gotta ask yourself if they're worth the trouble or if you're just gonna chase shadows. Without solid data and a strong offer, you're just barking up the wrong tree. If they stall, move on fast and look for someone who actually values your time and spend.

Been there, done that. Thought I could outsmart the system, cut out the middlemen, and hit gold. Ended up with a burned budget, ghosted payments, and a face full of regret.

look, honestly i used to swear by direct deals till i realized most are just fragile paper houses. ghosting, delayed payments, landers tanking. if you think you can go full cowboy and avoid the middlemen and still get paid on time you're dreaming.

man, you gotta understand that direct deals are like playing russian roulette without knowing if the gun is loaded. i've been there, lost more money on that idea than you have. my advice? stick to networks that have some sort of track record, even if it means sacrificing a little upside for stability. the thing with direct deals is they're just too unpredictable and shady sometimes, especially if you're not already a trusted big player. plus, work on your tracking setup again, it's probably a mess after that crash, and without proper data you're just throwing darts in the dark.

Trust me on this one, ur better off avoiding direct deals unless u got a very solid vetting process. Been there, got rekt more times than I can count. Networks with some history tend to be safer, even if the CR isn't perfect. U wanna build something sustainable, not chase quick wins with sketchy offers.
