WireGuard on mobile - does it kill battery or what?

so I've been trying WireGuard on my phone, it's fast for sure but I need it to be quick. does it drain battery like crazy or is that just my phone? mostly using it for streaming and getting around geo blocks. tbh I just need to know if I should keep using it or go back to OpenVPN or something. speed is great but battery life is a big deal for me. help a guy out, need an answer fast.

quick thought: I've used WireGuard on my phone for months and honestly it's been pretty chill on battery. Maybe your phone's just aging or something? OpenVPN killed my battery way faster tbh.

ok so one thing that helped me with battery life is setting WireGuard to auto disconnect when the screen is off. That way it's only running when you actually using the phone. Keeps it from churning in the background when you don't need it

ngl bruh, WireGuard's pretty lightweight so it shouldn't kill your battery unless your phone's pretty old or something. try turning off auto-reconnect when the screen is off, that helped me save some juice. if speed matters more than battery, keep it but if you're dying quick, maybe openvpn or a lower encryption setup?

been doing this 3 years and honestly my experience is different. wireguard on my old phone drained battery faster than openvpn ever did but on my newer device it's pretty chill. ymmv but maybe your phone's just giving up or it's some app background stuff. tried turning off auto reconnect or restricting app background activity? that helped me a lot

ngl just my 2 cents I tried wireguard on my old phone and it drained the hell out of the battery but on my newer one it's been pretty chill kinda weird how different devices react huh? maybe your phone's just sus or it's doing some background stuff that's messing with it.

bruh, I feel you, battery drain is the biggest concern with these VPNs. Some devices just can't handle WireGuard's lightweight protocol without battery taking a hit, especially if you're running it all the time for streaming. Honestly, if your phone's old or already struggling, switching back to OpenVPN might save you some hassle. But if your device's new

last month i used wireguard on my old phone and it drained the battery like crazy but on my newer device its pretty chill. do you notice any difference with your phone's power management settings?

different angle yeah some devices might struggle more with WireGuard's efficiency if you're constantly connected but I think a lot depends on how your phone manages background apps and power saving modes ymmv but my experience is that with newer phones it's pretty light even for prolonged use.

honestly, I used WireGuard on my old phone and it ate up battery like crazy, but on my newer one it's pretty chill. 2) I think it really depends on how your device handles background processes and power saving settings. 3) might wanna check those, or try disabling any battery optimization for the app to see if that helps.

last month i tried WireGuard on my old Android and it killed my battery, but on my new phone it's way better. so yeah, it def depends on your device and how it handles background stuff. smh, some phones just can't keep up

Actually, turning off the keep-alive setting in WireGuard can cut battery drain by like 30-40% if ur on Android, and it doesn't kill speed much, so wanna try that before switching?
