WireGuard on mobile - battery drain concerns?

hey sooo I've been using wireguard on my phone for a bit. its cool but kinda worried it kills battery. some vpns say its super efficient but I see mixed stuff online, like does it actually drain it or am I just imagining things. I tried a couple wireguard setups and saw some battery go down but idk if its wireguard or just me using my phone more. anyone actually tested this? trying to decide if I should keep using it daily or switch. also wondering if different vpn apps handle the battery thing differently

Been messing with WireGuard on my phone for a while, and honestly, it's pretty light on battery if ur not doing crazy traffic. some vpns say its super efficient but I see mixed stuff online, like does it actually drain it or am I just imagining things yeah, it kinda depends on how much data ur sending and the encryption overhead but if ur seeing a big drop, maybe check if ur

I've used it daily for like 3 months and honestly, I didn't notice much difference. one time I was heavy on streaming and gaming tho, and yeah battery went down faster. I think it depends on what else you got running on your phone. some apps chew more than WireGuard ever will.

careful with what you read online, a lot of those claims are exaggerated. its not magic, but if you're just browsing or light stuff, it shouldn't kill your battery. only when you're heavy on data and doing stuff like streaming or gaming does it get noticeable.

different angle: maybe it's not just about wireguard but your phone's overall battery health and background apps. like, even if wireguard is lightweight, if your phone's old or got a bunch of apps running, it might seem like it's draining faster. have you checked what's actually eating up battery during those times?

bruh, I feel you. honestly, I ran some tests myself with a battery monitor app and it's not just wireguard, but how much you're doing on your phone. if you're light on browsing, it's not gonna kill it. but if you're streaming or gaming with the VPN on, yeah, it adds up. I'd recommend using a tool like AccuBattery to see actual drain from apps.

battery drain from WireGuard is usually overrated if you set it up right. turn off the kill switch feature when not needed, that way it doesn't keep the VPN running and draining juice while you're not using it. been doing this for years, no issues.

WireGuard on mobile? More like wire-gone, if you don't watch it lol. Just tweak the settings and it's usually fine.

last month i tested WireGuard on my phone for a week and yeah, it drained my battery more than i expected. not sure if it's just my device but i doubt flipping a few switches fixes the real drain. feels sus to me.

Spot on. One trick I do is enable the "keep alive" option but set it to a very low interval like 10 seconds. that way it maintains the connection but doesn't ping constantly, saving some battery. ymmv.

Careful with assuming tweaking settings fixes all. I once thought I was saving juice by turning off keep alive, but then my battery still drained fast. sometimes it's just how your phone handles the VPN in the background

WireGuard on mobile - battery drain concerns? honestly I think it's more about how your phone manages background apps. tweak settings all you want but if your phone's crappy at handling VPNs in the background you're screwed lol.

bruh, ever try disabling background data for the app? might help save some battery since it won't keep trying to reconnect constantly.
