man man I gotta vent a bit here. Been testing VPNs like crazy lately and honestly im getting so frustrated. Everyone talks about speeds but nobody shows real results that matter. Tried NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, Proton and Mullvad. The results? So inconsistent. Nord and Express look good on paper but drop like crazy on some servers, especially in Asia. Surfshark kinda mid, Mullvad surprisingly fast on some locations but bad elsewhere. ProtonVPN? Slow as hell sometimes, other times decent. How are we supposed to pick when the speed test results are all over the place? Methodology wise, I used a bunch of tools, connected to different regions, tried streaming, torrenting, and just normal browsing. Still, the speeds don't match their marketing hype. It's like they're hiding the real numbers or something. Anyone got a reliable way to test or just trust certain providers? I just want fast, stable, and consistent for streaming and torrenting without having to flip servers every 5 mins. This whole thing is lowkey exhausting, gotta get a quick answer cause I don't got all day to chase shadows here.
 
Did you try using ping plots or traceroutes to see where the bottlenecks are? sometimes it's not just the VPN but the route they pick for ya.
 
Been doing this 3 years, and honestly, I got fed up with all the speed tests being inconsistent too. Have you tried using a tool like Speedtest by Ookla or Fast.com? afaik, running multiple tests over different times and regions kinda helps get a more real picture of what you can expect in daily use.
 
You ever think maybe the real issue is how the VPN routes traffic? sometimes the fastest server isn't the one that actually gives the best speeds in practice. I'd try a few more ping plots or traceroutes to see where the bottlenecks are, ymmv
 
Careful with trusting speed tests fr, I spent hours chasing different providers only to realize it's all about the server routing and timing. honestly just my 2 cents: speed tests are kinda pointless if you don't consider server location and congestion, especially with VPNs. a provider might shine in one country and be trash in another. don't get blinded by a single test - do multiple rounds and check for consistency.
 
always keep in mind that speed test results can be pretty skewed by server location and traffic, ymmv. don't just chase numbers, try a few in your area and see what sticks lol.

Ever tried using multiple speed tests across different servers? I did that once with NordVPN and found some servers were crazy slow but others lightning fast. Ended up sticking with the faster ones, but yeah, gotta test locally.

23% of people say their VPN slowed down a lot, which makes me wonder, how do you even tell if a VPN is fast or just okay? Do they even test it with different servers or just one spot?
 
just my 2 cents: run speed tests on multiple servers at different times and compare results, thats how you really see if a vpn is just okay or fast enough lol

Disagree a bit, speed test results can be pretty misleading rn since it depends on server load and time of day, so better run multiple tests over days.
