VPN protocols for travel - tired of the wireguard hype

Last month I was traveling and found that Wireguard kept dropping out on sketchy WiFi. Switched back to OpenVPN UDP and honestly the stability was way better for me. Imho, Wireguard's speed is nice but it's still a bit finicky in real-world travel scenarios

just my 2 cents: wireguard's speed is cool but tbh i had more disconnects than with openvpn on travel, so i stick with openvpn for stability. not sure if it's setup or what but wireguard's hype seems a bit overblown for mobile.

3 out of 5 times, I found Wireguard to drop connections more often than OpenVPN when traveling. Anyone else notice that or is it just me?

imho maybe it's just setup stuff? or maybe ur network environment? lol, hard to say if it's just u or if others noticed too.

careful with just switching protocols without testing, sometimes a simple OpenVPN config tweak can fix disconnects better than jumping ship. also, check your server location and network stability.

bruh, I feel ya. I've used Wireguard for a while and noticed it sometimes drops more on flaky networks, especially with mobile data. OpenVPN with some tweaks usually stays more stable for me, especially when switching servers mid-travel. sometimes just changing the config or switching servers is all u need, no need to ditch protocols entirely

Haha, sounds like you're over the wireguard hype but gotta point out, it's VPN protocols not "wireguard hype" lol

last month i was fed up with all the wireguard hype too, switched to openvpn for my travel stuff and honestly it's been more stable for me especially on spotty hotel wifi or if im on my phone on the go. sometimes sticking to the classics just works better than the new shiny thing.

your experience. I agree, wireguard's speed is cool but stability on travel can be hit or miss depending on network. OpenVPN UDP is a solid fallback, especially for sketchy WiFi. Fwiw, I still keep both configs ready to switch based on connection quality. Keep experimenting! Catch ya later.
