VPN for travel - speeds & what really works?

Man, rn I'm legit irritated with how VPNs perform when I travel abroad. I just wanna stream my shows, access local content and not deal with buffering hell but it's like a lottery. Tried a bunch and some just kill my speed, others barely unblock anything. I tested Nord, Express, Surfshark, and Mullvad on a trip last week. Nord was decent but still laggy sometimes, Express was pretty solid but their servers felt overloaded, Surfshark was meh, Mullvad surprisingly fast and stable for streaming. Protocols matter too I stuck with WireGuard mostly, felt smoother but still not perfect. Privacy's also a big concern rn, some VPNs say they're no-log but then you see weird DNS leaks or slow speeds that make u wonder if they're just playing us. Anyone else sick of wasting time and money on VPNs that promise fast speeds for travel but fall flat? I just wanna get online, chill, and not stress about my privacy or buffering.
 
last month i was in europe, had the same issues. Nord was decent but still lagged sometimes, Express was solid but got slow when their servers overloaded, Surfshark just felt sus and Mullvad was actually the best for speed. protocols matter, but man, sometimes these VPNs just ain't enough if the local ISPs or infrastructure suck.
 
bruh, same boat here, VPNs are always a gamble abroad, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, gotta keep testing protocols, servers and hope for the best.
 
lol sounds like VPNs are just gambling, huh? gotta pick your poison. Mullvad for speed but still trial and error.
 
haha, sounds like we all playing VPN roulette rn. I rn stick mostly with Mullvad when abroad, it's been pretty reliable for streaming and not too slow. But yeah, even then rn I gotta test different servers daily, kinda tired of it honestly. Protocols matter but the real magic is finding a solid server that ain't overloaded.
 
try using a VPN with obfuscated servers, da can hide VPN traffic from ISPs and maybe help with speeds and access.
 
I've found that switching to a VPN with dedicated streaming servers helps a lot, especially ones that list optimized speeds. Last month, I got stable 40-50 Mbps on Netflix using a VPN with servers specifically for streaming, but ymmv depending on the country. Protocols matter too, WireGuard
 
Last month I tried Proton VPN and it was surprisingly good for streaming abroad. They have a "streaming optimized" servers list now which actually works. Ymmv but their speeds held up pretty well
 
Yep exactly, it's like finding a decent VPN abroad is just a matter of luck sometimes. YMMV big time and you gotta keep testing different servers or protocols.
 
like 80% of the time, same here, it's just hit or miss, especially abroad. fwiw, i found that trying dedicated streaming servers from IPVanish actually helped me a lot, especially for local content and decent speeds. no perfect fix but worth a shot.
 
Yeah I feel that. Last trip I was stuck with a VPN that worked fine in one country but was dead slow in another. Switched to Mullvad for streaming and it was night and day. Some VPNs just don't cut it abroad, ymmv, but I've seen Mullvad's speeds hold up pretty well even on dodgy networks.
