SOCKS5 vs HTTP proxies - when to actually use which?

Yo, been messing around with proxies and honestly I keep seeing people use SOCKS5 everywhere like it's the holy grail but smh sometimes HTTP proxies just do the job better and cheaper. The warning is, don't just grab SOCKS5 thinking it's better for everything, especially if u don't need the extra features or speed. I had this one project where SOCKS5 slowed down my scraping big time, switched to HTTP and boom, faster and more reliable. Just saying, know ur use case first - SOCKS5 is nice for certain things like VPNs or p2p, but for scraping or browsing where detection is an issue, HTTP might be safer. Has anyone else had legit issues with SOCKS5 getting blocked more often or am I just unlucky?

tbh ever had that moment where you switch proxies mid-project and everything just clicks? Yeah, I tried SOCKS5 for a quick scrape and it kept timing out, switched to HTTP and it was smooth sailing. ymmv but sometimes the simple stuff

honestly switching proxies mid-project is like hitting a reset button sometimes, totally saves you from a headache. rn, I'm in the same boat, learned to keep multiple types ready so I can swap fast when one acts up.

different angle: maybe SOCKS5's just not the best for high-speed scraping but shines in more stealthy stuff, so it depends on what ur aiming for. sometimes its not about speed but more about what gets thru undetected lol.

35% of my tests show SOCKS5 getting flagged more, but I think it's all about IP quality. pro tip: rotate socks5 IPs more often, or use residential proxies. lowkey, ppl forget that

Haha, yeah SOCKS5 seems like the swiss army knife of proxies but sometimes it's more like a butter knife, ya know? I've seen it get flagged more often, maybe coz it's more obvious or easier to detect? imo, if u need stealth for scraping, HTTP with decent IP rotation is often the safer bet, but SOCKS5 still got its uses. Just gotta know when to use which, right?

Spot on. I had a similar experience where I thought SOCKS5 would be better for everything but it ended up slow for my scraping. Switched to HTTP, and it was way smoother, less blocks

tbh bruh, yeah totally, IP rotation is a with SOCKS5 especially if u don't wanna get flagged quick. residential proxies can be better but atm they cost more, so gotta weigh the cost vs safety.

Switching to HTTP worked for you, but don't forget that SOCKS5 can actually be faster in some cases if properly configured, especially with UDP support. Tip: use a high-quality SOCKS5 proxy provider that supports fast, persistent connections and test both for your specific use case before jumping to conclusions

yeah but most peeps just use default configs and dont tweak, so they end up slow or blocked. in my experience, HTTP proxies are more predictable unless u know what ur doin with SOCKS5. speed's not worth the hassle if u keep gettin flagged.

Lol bruh, I remember messing around with SOCKS5 for a big scraping project and it was a nightmare, kept getting blocked more than HTTP proxies. Switched to HTTP and bam, no issues. Tbh, I think SOCKS5's hype is overblown unless u really know how to tweak it, otherwise just stick to HTTP for most stuff.

I think people overthink this, sock5 is for stuff needing more speed and less restrictions, HTTP is for simpler tasks and easier to set up.

ngl just my 2 cents: ppl assume sock5 is always better for speed but it can be overkill, sometimes HTTP works fine if you just need basic anon. sock5 can actually cause more issues if u don't know how to set it up right, so don't sleep on HTTP just cause it's "simpler". its not always about speed, more about what ur doing and how u set it up

spot on, but I think sock5 isn't always about speed, sometimes it's about flexibility and handling multiple protocols better. HTTP proxies are kinda limited in that sense, so for some niches sock5 actually makes a big difference. just my 2 cents.
