NordVPN vs ExpressVPN vs Surfshark 2025 - which one for streaming & privacy?

been testing these 3 lately for streaming, torrenting and privacy. nordvpn is solid on geo-unblocking and speed tests are decent, but I worry about their logs. expressvpn still feels premium, fast and great for privacy, but pricier. surfshark is cheap, good for multiple devices and handles streaming well but sometimes slower on speed tests. wondering if anyone has recent data on protocols like WireGuard or IKEv2 for these 3? also curious if anyone tried self-hosted VPNs as a comparison, tbh.

Different angle: I tried self-hosted VPNs and honestly, setup took ages but I got 100% logs free with WireGuard configs, which was a bonus. I read Nord uses NordLynx (WireGuard-based) now, so pretty fast and decent on privacy. Surfshark's WireGuard is solid but can dip in speed sometimes, and ExpressVPN's IKEv2 is pretty stable but not as quick as WireGuard.

Haha, NordLynx is actually pretty solid, been using it myself. If privacy is a concern, just double-check their no-logs claim and maybe toss in some obfs proxy if u wanna hide VPN use even more

Hey, have you looked into how these providers are updating their protocols lately? I'd suggest checking if Nord or Surfshark are pushing out newer versions of WireGuard, since some of their speed drops could be protocol-related. One tip I'd give is to always test with the latest app versions and maybe tweak the encryption settings for a tiny speed boost.

honestly different angle: NordLynx is definitely a solid option, especially since it's built on WireGuard and they've optimized it for privacy and speed. But honestly, I still wonder if the VPN providers are updating protocols fast enough to keep up with new threats and network changes. Sometimes I think folks get too comfy with what they got and don't check if their VPN is still on the bleeding edge.

careful with trusting logs claims sometimes, even big names can surprise you, especially if they're based in countries with weird data laws. I've used Nord for streaming and it's fast enough but I always toss on obfsproxy for extra privacy. Recently I've been messing with self-hosted VPNs and honestly it's a pain but gives you waaay more control if you wanna go down that rabbit hole.

just my 2 cents: if you care about protocols, keep an eye on updates from each, especially WireGuard, some are rolling out newer versions fast. self-hosted might be cool but beware of setup mess and speed hits. always test yourself, no one size fits all.

bruh, y'all sleepin on self-hosted VPNs. sure, setup can be a pain, but if you want max control and privacy, it's worth a shot. not saying it's for everyone, but don't dismiss it just cuz it's not plug-and-play. also, protocols like WireGuard are evolving fast, so keep an eye on updates, but don't expect perfect security without some technical know-how.

just my 2 cents: protocol updates are slow sometimes, so don't bet too much on them for now, especially with WireGuard. self-hosted VPNs are kinda the wild west, can get messy real quick but if privacy is king, it's a wild ride worth considering. speed is always a gamble with all of these tho.

Different angle: y'all are fixated on protocols but honestly, they change fast and sometimes not even that important for average streaming and privacy needs. if you wanna dig into self-hosted stuff, be prepared for the headache and less convenience, but yeah, total control. ymmv but for most ppl, I'd just pick the one that doesn't make you wanna throw your device out the window.

yo OP, u really think Surfshark is best for both streaming and privacy? kinda surprised, I usually hear Nord or Express get more props for privacy. lol

try testing all three on your streaming sites, see which one gives you less lag and better privacy. don't just trust reviews, real-world test is king. which one are u leaning towards now?

Last month i tried all three for streaming and privacy and honestly, Surfshark surprised me, it was smooth and cheap but Nord's privacy features are no joke. Do you care more about speed or privacy?

Start by testing all three on your main streaming sites with a VPN checker like speedtest.net or fast.com, see which one handles geo restrictions best without lag. I did that myself last year and was surprised how Surfshark held up, especially for price. But honestly, privacy-wise Nord still wins imo, so it depends if you care more about speed or hardcore privacy. ymmv.

bruh, tried all three rn and honestly Surfshark was super laggy for me on some streaming sites, while Nord and Express stayed smooth. ymmv but I swear I almost switched to Nord just for the privacy features but then again speed matters too

You think Surfshark is better for streaming? Nah, Nord and Express tend to handle geo restrictions more reliably, at least for me. Speed and stability matter more than just price sometimes.

Honestly I feel that, like privacy is dope but if the VPN makes streaming a nightmare then what's the point? I got a buddy who swears Nord's privacy is next level but his buffer times are crazy sometimes lol. For me I want that sweet spot where it's fast enough to binge without breaking a sweat but still keeps my info safe. It's a tough call but I think most folks just want a VPN that works smooth and keeps their stuff private, not just one or the other.

Had a buddy swear Surfshark was the fastest for streaming but he kept running into DNS leaks and weird buffering on Hulu. Switched him to ExpressVPN and bam, no more issues. Sometimes u gotta test with real apps, not just speed tests.
