Mullvad for streaming and geo-unblocking? The numbers tell a story

Been running some tests on Mullvad lately for streaming and geo-restrictions. So here's the scoop - I tested it on Netflix US, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer. For Netflix US, I got a consistent 4.2 Mbps download speed, which is decent enough for HD streaming w/o buffering. Hulu was even smoother, 4.5 Mbps, no issues. BBC iPlayer though was a different story, I hit around 3.8 Mbps but had some hiccups with the stream pausing every now and then. The cool part is Mullvad's got a strict no-logs policy and uses WireGuard by default, so my privacy stays tight while I test. Now, geo-unblocking? It works surprisingly well, especially for Netflix US and Hulu - 90% of the time I could get thru their geo blocks. BBC iPlayer was hit or miss but usually I got in after a quick reconnect. I know speed and unblocking aren't everything, but Mullvad's steady speeds and privacy-first stance make it kinda interesting for streaming without the usual VPN lag. ymmv, but those are the real numbers I saw so far, lol

Been doing this 2 years, and honestly Mullvad's speeds are kinda on par with what I see in my tests, around 4-5 Mbps for HD streams. But yeah, the occasional hiccup on BBC iPlayer, probs cuz of server loads or geo detection. Still, for privacy-first VPNs, its speeds are decent for streaming, imo.

Been doing this like 3 years, and i think ur speeds are a bit optimistic for Mullvad, usually around 3.5-4 Mbps for me on HD streams. Also, BBC iPlayer is a pain for me too, probs just server issues or IP reputation.

last month i tested mullvad on a few streaming sites too, mostly got around 4 Mbps on netflix US but had some buffer issues with BBC iPlayer like u said. seems like the speeds are kinda similar across the board, maybe server location plays a role? the privacy angle with no logs and wireguard keeps it interesting tho. ymmv depending on where u connect from

been doing this 2 years and yeah maybe server location is a big deal, i notice sometimes changing servers helps but still hits or miss with BBC iPlayer. guess it's just how they set up their geo-blocks too, idk.

Last month I was messing around with Mullvad on my old laptop and found that switching to a less crowded server actually made a difference for BBC iPlayer. It was like night and day, smooth streams and no pauses. Sometimes the "best" server isn't really the best, gotta test a few and see what works.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's good to hear I'm not alone on BBC iPlayer hiccups lol. Yeah, server choice seems key, maybe try different ones if u wanna dodge the buffer. Ymmv but I think Mullvad's speeds are decent for the price, especially if you prioritize privacy. Catch ya later, stay streaming!

The numbers might tell a story but I bet it's not the full story. Streaming and geo-unblocking with Mullvad rn feels like a gamble, especially if you care about speed and stability. Numbers don't always capture real-world issues.

numbers can be tricky, esp with streaming it often depends on your location and the server, not just stats.

yep exactly, numbers can be misleading. always test servers in your area, some might work better for streaming than what the stats say. fam, real-world test > numbers.

been doing this 3 years, and honestly, stats can be sus. had a server with a 4.8 avg speed for geo-unblocking but in real tests it was trash for HD streams, like 1-2 fps drops. numbers just a snapshot, real world can be totally diff.

wait, are you sure you mean Mullvad is good for geo-unblocking? that kinda contradicts what you said earlier about server location being a big factor like tf, shouldn't it be more about the server than the provider?

Mullvad's got a mixed rep for geo-unblocking but if you look at the data, some servers hit around 15-20 Mbps on avg, which is okay for HD streams. but a lot of folks find that

Always pick servers close to the target country, that's like 80% of the battle. I got decent speeds with Mullvad in Japan, but some US servers are dead slow, lol. ymmv but don't just trust the speed tests, do your own real-world streaming tests.

I disagree, Mullvad can do pretty well for streaming if you pick the right servers. Sure, not all are perfect but some US and UK ones are decent enough for HD. ymmv, but don't dismiss it outright
