Double VPN / Multi-hop VPN - Necessary or Overkill?

ok so ive been trying a bunch of vpns lately and the whole double vpn multi-hop thing kinda feels like overkill but i guess there are some real uses for it. i checked out nordvpn protonvpn and surfshark. nord has a good multi-hop like 10% speed drop usually but its super private. protons double vpn is slower maybe 15-20% hit but their no logs thing is great for privacy nerds. surfsharks is alright speed drops 12-14% but its cheap and flexible. thing is if youre streaming or torrenting and super serious about privacy or scared of leaks then maybe the overkill is worth it. but just for casual browsing or netflix the speed loss sucks. ymmv but imo unless youre in a sketchy country or doing sensitive work its more of a luxury feature. still if you have the money why not get that extra layer just dont expect crazy fast speeds. anyone think multi-hop is actually useful or just a meme

double VPN is kinda like wearing a helmet for a short walk, overkill unless you're doing something sketchy. Have you tried IVPN? Their multi-hop setup is solid and less speed hit than others.

If you want less speed hit, try splitting traffic with a VPN router so only sensitive stuff uses multi-hop.

You ever mess with a multi-hop setup yourself or just thinking about it? I tried it when I was working on some super sensitive stuff and yeah it felt overkill but peace of mind was worth the slowdown. For everyday browsing I stick to single VPN, but for anything sketchy I toss on the extra layer.

man bruh, surfsharks is alright speed drops 12-14% but its cheap and flexible, yeah. I've used it for casual stuff and it's fine but don't expect it to hold up in a war zone. For a quick Netflix or browsing thing, it's decent enough.

ngl, I've used surfshark for casual stuff too, and it's decent enough. but if you start doing anything more serious like streaming or torrenting, I'd wanna look at something with more privacy layers. speed drops are manageable for most daily stuff tho. just don't expect it to be bulletproof. stay safe out there!

been doing this 7 years fam, multi-hop? feels like overkill unless ur in some shady country or dodging serious surveillance. speeds take a hit but if ur tryna stay ultra private, why not?

just my 2 cents, I agree it's kinda overkill for most people unless you're doing some high-stakes stuff. do you guys think it's really worth the extra hassle or just a fancy layer for the paranoid?

Just my 2 cents, I get the paranoia but for most ppl it's just extra latency and hassle, not real protection.

Around 90% of ppl don't need multi-hop VPNs, but if u wanna try one, NordVPN's double VPN is legit and easy to set up. smh, don't waste time if u just browsing.

been using multi-hop VPNs for a couple years, mainly for the extra peace of mind. honestly, it does slow things down but I feel safer knowing my traffic is layered. still, I agree most folks don't need it, just depends on how paranoid u are lol

yep exactly, I tried a multi-hop for a bit, felt more secure but man it was slow as hell lol. kinda like wearing a heavy jacket in summer. ymmv tho, sometimes peace of mind is worth the slowdown. lmao, just me tho. stay safe out there!

careful with that kinda advice, sometimes layered security isn't about speed but about actual risk. browsing a few sites isn't the same as hiding serious stuff. don't underestimate how much a multi-hop can add up in real threat scenarios.

Yep exactly. I get why some wanna layer up for extra peace of mind but do ya really need it all the time? Or is it just a paranoia thing? Would be sick to hear more real-world use cases where multi-hop actually saved someone from legit trouble.

Haha, speed is sometimes the price we pay for peace of mind, but I've found that for most daily browsing, double VPN feels like overkill. Once you get into high-risk stuff or sensitive data, then yeah maybe, but for casual use, I'd skip it. Not everything needs to be a fortress.

different angle: I've run double VPN setups a lot in certain high-risk jobs, like journalists or activists, where extra layers can actually save your ass. but for everyday stuff? nah, overkill unless you're tryna hide from some serious enemies. most peeps don't need that level of paranoia, lol

Yep exactly, I ran double VPN for a while on some sketchy public WiFi last year and honestly it gave me a little peace of mind. But for everyday stuff? nah, overkill.
