Double VPN / multi-hop - overkill or actually necessary?

Bruh everyone says double VPN is overkill or just marketing but tbh if you really wanna mess with anyone tracking you or doing serious surveillance its not a bad idea at all. Yeah it slows things down a bit but for privacy nerds its like adding extra layers. Some providers like Nord or Proton have multi-hop built in so no setup just pick it and go. Streamers or torrenters who care about privacy should think about it especially if you're worried about ISPs or govs snooping. Not for casual use obviously but if you're serious about privacy and dont wanna be a target sometimes overkill is necessary. Anyone run multi-hop themselves or test the speeds?

been doing this 12 years and honestly multi-hop feels like overkill most times. Sure it adds layers but also adds complexity and speed issues that can mess with your day-to-day. Unless you got serious enemies or state level threats, I think normal VPN with good

Just my 2 cents: that line kinda oversimplifies it, slowdowns can be pretty noticeable especially if your internet ain't that fast to start with and some setups can cause more issues than they solve. For most ppl it's just not worth the hassle unless you got real threats or serious paranoia.

if you wanna minimize speed hit, try split tunneling. route only the sensitive traffic through multi-hop and let the rest go normal. keeps your speeds decent but still adds privacy where it matters.

I kinda disagree, bruh. Double VPN isn't gonna stop a really determined state actor if they have serious resources. But if you wanna make it harder for casual trackers or ISPs, it can help. Also, try using obfsproxy or randomizing your traffic patterns with a VPN that offers that, keeps some trackers guessing rn.

69% of people still think double VPN is just marketing, lol. I once tested it for a week and legit felt like I was crawling thru molasses but hey, privacy over speed any day.

lol bruh, I get it but double VPN still mostly just slows u down for casual snooping, real state actors will still crack it if they really want

ok so over 70% of my clients who do serious privacy stuff swear by multi-hop, and honestly I noticed a legit speed hit but the extra layer feels worth it. Been running it for months and never had issues with speed

Appreciate the input, guys, especially the real talk about speed and complexity. Yeah, multi-hop can slow you down, no doubt, but for some it's peace of mind if you're doing anything serious. If you got a decent connection, it's not the worst, but definitely not for casual browsing. Anyone else tried it out or got stories?

Yep exactly, but do you think it's really worth it for most ppl rn? I mean if you're not dealing with serious threats or high-value data kinda overkill, right?

Been doing this 1 year and honestly, unless you got mad skills or are dealing with high threats, is multi-hop really worth rn?

Careful with thinking multi-hop is always overkill, bruh. I once knew a guy who got doxxed just for posting on a forum and he had to double VPN to keep safe. Sure, most ppl don't need it, but sometimes when stuff gets real, that extra layer can save your ass.

Doxxing is real and scary, lol, I had a buddy who just used a VPN and still got tracked, so I think multi-hop can sometimes be worth it if you got serious stuff to hide.

careful with thinking multi-hop is just overkill fam, sometimes it's the only way to stay safe when stuff's real serious. if you're really sweating bad actors, use apps like Mullvad or ProtonVPN and set up multi-hop routes yourself, it's kinda for peace of mind

last month i threw on multi-hop just to test, honestly felt like overkill but also peace of mind lowkey. if you got high stakes stuff, it might be worth it fam.

if ur really worried about doxxing or like serious stuff, multi-hop is not overkill fam. better safe than sorry sometimes. just depends how much u wanna protect urself tbh.

Who needs a double VPN when you can just hide under your desk lol? but real talk, if ur life depends on it maybe, or u just like the extra peace of mind?

just my 2 cents, that's true but also depends how much ur data is worth or if u got some serious targets. i've been using multi-hop for a bit now and honestly i sleep better at night lol. u ever felt it was too much or just right?

been doing this 5 years, and honestly if u wanna add an extra layer for sensitive stuff just set up a dedicated multi-hop route with different providers so ur main data doesn't even touch the same server chain twice.
