so i posted about vpns earlier but honestly now i'm just totally confused if it helps gaming ping or messes it up. i've seen ppl say vpns can lower ping if you connect to a server near the game server but then others say it just adds lag and makes things stutter. i tried a few like nordvpn and surfshark with thier gaming servers but tbh the results are super random. sometimes ping gets a bit better, sometimes it goes crazy high. does the protocol even matter? heard wireguard is fast but idk if that actually helps for gaming. i wanna stream and play together but not sure if i should even use a vpn for gaming atm. anyone actually tried this or have real experience with it?
 
U sure u posted about vpns before? Anyway, yeah protocols matter but results r super random with gaming. best way is test ur setup with ur provider, no magic fix.
 
did you try different VPN locations? i played around with a few and sometimes my ping was lower but other times it was worse. personally i got better results using a local server near the game server rather than a vpn. just gotta test it out and see what works for ur setup
 
bruh, u act like VPNs r some magic fix but honestly it's mostly just luck, especially with gaming ping, and wireguard being "fast" doesn't mean it'll actually help u when it's all about the route to ur game server
 
been doing this 3 years and honestly the best tip I can give is to use ping plotter or a similar tool to actually see where your ping is spiking. It helps to identify if the issue is your ISP routing or the VPN route. Sometimes switching VPN servers or protocols won't help if the route to the game server is bad from the start.
 
bruh, I tried VPNs for gaming too and lol, it's like playing ping roulette sometimes. once I got a VPN close to the game server and thought I was set but then next day it was worse than no VPN at all. wireguard sounds fast but in practice, routing still messes with the ping more often than not. I swear, half the time it just adds lag and makes the game stutter.
 
Careful with thinking VPN automatically cuts ping. I once ran a VPN during a raid in a game and my ping shot up, not down. Sometimes it's about the route, not just the VPN.
 
Have you tested different VPN servers? I saw my ping drop by like 20-30ms when switching to a closer or less congested server, but sometimes it can get worse depending on the route. It's all about finding that sweet spot.

last month i tried a VPN for gaming and honestly it made my ping worse almost everywhere. maybe ymmv but for me it was a no-go. sometimes it's just better to stick with your normal connection unless you're messing with geo-restrictions.
 
honestly disagree, I think with the right VPN and a bit of trial and error you can actually lower ping, especially if your ISP's routing is crappy or you're in a congested area.

just my 2 cents, VPNs are basically hit or miss for ping. some swear it helps, but most times it just adds lag or stays the same. highkey, if your ISP routing is trash, maybe it's worth a shot, but don't hold your breath.
 
had a buddy who swore by using VPNs for gaming. one time he got a better ping on certain servers cuz his ISP's route was just really bad. personally, i tried a few VPNs myself and saw some decent drops in specific cases but usually it's just more lag. depends on your route and luck, i guess.
 
Ever think maybe the real question is if your VPN's server location matches the game server? If not, you might just be adding more lag. Why do people think VPNs help with ping sometimes but not always?
