WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2 - What a mess for streaming!

ugh gotta vent real quick. tried all these protocols for streaming and omg what a mess. figured wireguard would be fast and secure right? nope totally depends on the server, sometimes it's fine other times buffering like crazy or just blocked. openvpn? stable yeah but so slow rn like painfully slow. ikev2? speed is okay but the geo-unblocking sucks. i'm constantly swapping servers and protocols and nothing ever works consistently. every vpn seems to have its own trick for streaming stuff and it never lasts. you finally get a good server then boom connection dies or you get that "not available" error. anyone else over this? feels like i need a whole IT degree just to watch netflix without stress. tbh don't just go by the protocol name, gotta test your vpn first. this is such a nightmare.

Honestly, you're not wrong, this whole VPN mess is a headache. Have you tried surfshark? their no-logs policy and dedicated streaming servers make a huge difference, and it's way less of a pain trying to get it working. ymmv but worth a shot

man yep totally. ive been at this for years and it's just endless trial and error. sometimes i think the only way is to just accept some buffers or disconnects are part of the process. all these protocols, server switching, it's like a full-time job. feels like they should just make one perfect vpn that just works everywhere, but nah, still chaos.

just my 2 cents but yeah if only it was that simple like one vpn that magically works everywhere no stress but nope gotta keep testing and praying it sticks and doesn't break mid-stream tf.

ngl, i think u got the protocols mixed up. wireguard is actually faster and more reliable for streaming than openvpn or ikev2, at least from what ive seen. everyone always complains about the mess, but wireguard's pretty straightforward once u get it set up.

different angle: sometimes the mess isn't about the protocols themselves but more about how the providers implement them. If u wanna simplify streaming, maybe try sticking to one protocol and just optimize configs for it, rather than switching all over the place. Have u tested different server setups or just gone for the default?

65% of streamers say wireguard's been more stable for them compared to openvpn or ikev2, especially with higher bitrates. But yeah, implementation quality can tank those numbers fast. Fwiw, pick a provider with solid app support and avoid DIY configs if u wanna keep it simple.

lol, exactly. ppl think picking a protocol fixes everything but if the provider's crap or configs are botched, you're screwed no matter what. I've seen top-tier wireguard setups turn into laggy mess just because they didn't bother with proper config.

Most of my issues were always about the device compatibility and network congestion not the protocol itself. I once switched to WireGuard on a fresh install, thought it would be smooth, but turns out my router's CPU was bottlenecking and causing drops. So yeah, pick a protocol, but also check your hardware and configs
