VPN speed test results comparison - quick and dirty

yo just ran some quick vpn tests and tbh the speeds were kinda surprising. expressvpn got 150 on my 300 line no sweat. nord was close like 140 but cyberghost was lagging at 80. proton with wireguard? easy 130. didn't even try the free ones they're usually slow or sketch. for protocols openvpn did about 100 but ikev2 and wireguard crushed it hitting 150+. so which is actually fastest rn? need to pick one for gaming and streaming like asap

different angle: those speeds can be kinda misleading since VPN servers can fluctuate a lot and your local network or device might mess with the results, so don't get too caught up just yet.

Careful with those numbers, I once got 200 on Nord and 50 on CyberGhost in the same hour lol. speeds can jump around a lot.

last month i ran a ton of speed tests, was surprised how stable some VPNs stayed. yeah, scores jump but if ur gaming and streaming, the real test is latency and ping stability. so id say, pick the one that gives u the most consistent experience rather than just

yep exactly, wireguard on proton is usually my go-to for a good combo of speed and stability. always makes a difference for gaming and streaming. try to stick to protocols that give you consistent latency above just raw numbers.

been doing this 3 years and speed tests are all over the place lol. for gaming and streaming, id say go for the most stable ping and low jitter, not just max speed. wireguard usually wins for that.

Proton with wireguard? kinda risky to trust just a speed test, tbh. VPNs can lie about their actual speeds or prioritize certain protocols.

Always run tests at different times of day, peak hours can drop speeds 30-50%. Also, check for VPN server location, closer usually means faster but sometimes congested. I saw a 50 Mbps avg for UK servers, but dropped to 20 during peak hours.

yep exactly, but did you mean 'quick and dirty' as in just quick tests or actually dirty speeds? sometimes quick tests don't show the real performance, especially if server congestion varies.

Are you sure quick and dirty tests give you the full picture? I think they can be misleading since they don't account for peak congestion or server load, which matter a lot.

Always run a few tests over different days and times to get a real feel, speed can jump around like a ping-pong ball. Don't just rely on one quick test, especially if you wanna know if the VPN can handle your daily grind.

different angle: quick and dirty is fine for a quick check but if you really need consistent numbers you gotta run long term tests over different times, not just one or two quickie runs. ymmv.

spot on. one tip i'd add: do multiple tests at different times, like morning, noon, and night, and average the results. if you're seeing big swings, then you know the VPN's performance isn't stable and quick tests just give a skewed view. real numbers matter when you're trying to decide if it's reliable enough for streaming or gaming.

bruh, exactly. one quick test is just a snapshot, not the full story. gotta run multiple to get a real feel for the VPN's stability and speed.

honestly bruh, totally. one test is just a quick look, not the full picture. gotta do it at different times to see how it really performs.

Always check your ISP speed first before blaming the VPN, otherwise you might be chasing ghosts. Sometimes the VPN looks slow but your baseline is trash from the start. Do a speed test without VPN first, then compare to see if the VPN is really the bottleneck or not

Last month I ran a bunch of tests at different times, and some VPNs that looked slow at first actually held up well later. Do you guys usually test during peak hours or just random times?

thanks fam for the tips. yeah i meant quick and dirty as in quick tests, not actual dirty speeds lol. i know they're not perfect but sometimes u just wanna get a rough idea fast. i get that congestion and time of day matter, but this was just a quick comparison.
