ok so hey guys so ive been messing with vpns for a bit and everyone says router vpn is best but then others say apps are more flexible. whats the real deal from ppl who tried both? pros and cons? like router setup seems cool cause everything in the house is covered but maybe its slower and less customizable. vpn apps are easier to switch quick but do they slow devices down a lot? also people say router is better for privacy but is that true or just hype lol. trying to decide if i should get a router just for vpn or just stick with the app to avoid headache. ymmv but i want real experiences, wanna get good at this stuff. peace
 
Last month I tried both, and honestly the router VPN slowed my internet like crazy and was a pain to set up. Apps are way more flexible and quicker for switching but yeah sometimes they cause minor slowdowns. Ymmv but I think for learning and quick control

bruh if you wanna keep it simple and not wanna mess with slowdowns and setup headaches, just go with a good VPN app like surfshark or nordvpn. they're pretty flexible, fast enough, and you can toggle on/off w/o breaking a sweat. router VPN sounds cool but honestly ymmv on the speed and privacy claims, usually just hype.

are you sure they slow devices down much? i've run vpn apps on low-end phones with zero issues, but yeah, sometimes on pc it can cause lag if it's not optimized. fr, it's kinda case by case.

Last month I set up VPN on my router and also used the VPN app on my phone. I actually prefer the app for quick switching and specific device control. The router VPN can be good for whole home protection but it felt kinda clunky for me. So I think it really depends on what you need, but I wouldn't dismiss the VPN app so easily. lol

Actually, I'd argue the opposite, tbh. Router VPN might be less hassle once set up but what if the router gets rebooted or has issues? Then all devices lose protection, whereas apps can reconnect automatically or be toggled easily without messing with the whole network. Ymmv but imo, the quick toggling of apps beats the sometimes clunky router setup for flexibility.
