Voluum vs self-hosted tracker, I finally tried both

Alright I gotta get this out. Spent the last like 6 months religiously using Voluum for everything. Love the interface, their reporting is solid, made sense with my traffic sources. But man the cost? It creeps up on you. I was hitting that $199 tier easy then adding on data just crushed it. Was looking at like $350 a month minimum and that's before any actual ad spend lol. Finally caved and set up a self-hosted binom server on a VPS last month after a buddy kept nagging me. Setup was annoying ngl had to mess with some configs but got it running. Ran the same push campaign i was running on voluum side by side for 2 weeks. Voluum tracked 14,871 clicks, 97 convs for a $1.84 CPA. My binom server tracked 15,102 clicks, 108 convs for a $1.58 CPA. That's an extra 11 conversions voluum just. missed? Or maybe misattributed? Costs me like $45 for the VPS and binom license. Not saying it's for everyone if you hate tech stuff but fwiw the numbers dont lie for my setup at least. Paying for convenience is one thing but losing out on actual profit is another game entirely.
Tracks don't lie.

Honestly I disagree, rn I find Voluum more reliable for attribution, especially with complex traffic sources. My self-hosted binom always misses some conversions or misattributes, even with the same campaigns. Different setups, different results, I stick with what consistently works for me

38 campaigns ran side by side, binom missed about 3-4% of conversions compared to Voluum for me, which adds up over time. The cost savings are real but gotta admit, setup was a pain and some attribution quirks happen. Still leaning towards self-hosted for profit, but trust issues with misat

tbh yeah rn that's the real kicker, tracking costs eating into profit big time, especially with more campaigns. Always gotta ask if the extra reliability is worth that extra cash rn.

self-hosted is cool but u gotta remember it's a lot of work to keep it running and secure, especially if ur not tech savvy. voluum might be pricier but at least it's less hassle and u get support. sometimes u pay for convenience more than anything.

Haha, sounds like u went on a tracker dating app! I remember setting up my first self-hosted one, spent like a weekend fixing bugs and updating stuff. Never again rn, that was a full-time job!

sounds like u went on a tracker dating app! I once spent a whole week trying to customize a self-hosted one, and man it was a headache. tip: if u go the self-hosted route, set up a good backup routine right from the start. lost my data once, never again.

I honestly disagree that self-hosted is just a pain to maintain. Once you get a good setup and automate backups, it's smoother than people think. I ran my own tracker for a while and learned a lot, plus I had full control. But yeah, it's not for everyone, especially if uptime and support are priorities.

backup backups backup. I learned that the hard way too. once lost a week of data, never again. now I keep multiple copies and automations all over. best lesson ever

just my 2 cents: do you think the time and effort to maintain a self-hosted tracker is really worth it over the convenience of something like voluum?

careful with assuming self-hosted is just more hassle. if you know what you're doing, it can give you way more control and save you from those vendor lock issues. sometimes the effort pays off long term.

why'd you go for both? was it for data control or just curious? most peeps stick with one, but experimenting can teach ya a lot.
