SOCKS5 vs HTTP proxies when to pick which? Need advice!

Yo fam, been messing around with proxies a lot lately trying to optimize my scraping setups and I just hit a wall. I always thought SOCKS5 was the way to go for everything cause it's faster and more flexible, but then I started reading about HTTP proxies being better for some tasks. rn, I'm stuck on when I should use SOCKS5 and when HTTP makes more sense. I mean, I get that SOCKS5 is good for multi-protocol stuff and low latency, but HTTP proxies seem to handle cookies and sessions better. Has anyone cracked the sweet spot? I've seen some pros recommend SOCKS5 for pure scraping speed and HTTP for more login/session heavy tasks, but I wanna hear from someone who's actually tested both in real world campaigns. Also, does mobile or datacenter proxies change the game here? Thanks in advance, fam, I need that real-world intel.

been doing this 8 years and yeah, i've messed around with both a lot. once I ran a campaign with SOCKS5 for pure scraping, was fast as hell but kept breaking on login pages. switched to HTTP for that part and it actually worked smoother. curious tho, has anyone noticed a big difference in how mobile vs datacenter proxies handle these?

Been using proxies for a bit over 4 years now, and honestly mobile vs datacenter makes a big difference. Mobile proxies tend to handle sessions better for login-heavy stuff but are slower and more expensive. Datacenter are faster and cheaper but more likely to get flagged or blocked on some sites.

dude, if u wanna crack the perfect combo, try this: use SOCKS5 for speed and raw scraping, then switch to HTTP for login/session stuff. mobile proxies? they're slow but better for session stability, datacenter faster but more brittle on auth. experiment and see what clicks for ur setup.

actually, I think a lot of folks get caught up thinking SOCKS5 is always faster but data shows that for login/session heavy tasks HTTP proxies with cookies handling are just way more reliable, especially in real-world campaigns where stability matters more than raw speed. I've tested both across 50+ campaigns, and HTTP proxies tend to have about 30% better success on login flows, but SOCKS5 still kills it for raw scraping speed. mobile proxies? they're a different beast, slower but way better for session persistence, especially if you're doing stuff that needs to stay logged in longer.

Last month i did some tests rn and i found out that for speed SOCKS5 still wins, but when it comes to session handling and cookies HTTP proxies are legit better. Do u run any testing on your end? If not, I'd suggest trying a split setup to see what works best for ur campaigns

Actually, I found that in my tests, HTTP proxies sometimes outperformed SOCKS5 in speed depending on the provider, so ymmv, but I agree SOCKS5 is better for raw speed, still think HTTP wins for session stuff if setup right.

around 70% of pros prefer SOCKS5 for gaming or torrenting bc it's faster and more flexible. 2) HTTP proxies are usually better for web scraping or social media automations where you need simple HTTP support. 3) pick SOCKS5 if u need

Haha yeah if u need speed and flexibility SOCKS5 is ur buddy, but if u just need simple web access or scraping HTTP proxies do fine. Depends on ur project, fr.

Yeah, pretty much. SOCKS5 is the go-to for speed and flexibility, especially if ur doing gaming, torrents, or anything kinda heavy. HTTP proxies work fine for simple browsing or scraping, but SOCKS5 is just more versatile overall. ymmv tho, depends on ur setup.

Actually, you mean SOCKS5 and HTTP proxies right? Not HTTP proxies when you said "HTTP proxies". I once tried using HTTP proxies for gaming and it was a nightmare, kept disconnecting. SOCKS5 really is more reliable for that kinda stuff.

yep exactly, but what about use case? If u just need quick web scraping, HTTP might still be enough rn. Anyone try mixing them for different parts of a project?

Why not both? lol but seriously, do you need speed or just basic anonym? SOCKS5 is usually better for speed and flexibility, HTTP is good if you just want simple web browsing.

bruh, just use proxymonkey.io, they got both SOCKS5 and HTTP options, and you can switch based on what you need at the moment. keeps it simple and saves you the hassle of juggling multiple providers.

You sure about that? I remember using SOCKS5 for simple tasks too and it handled them just fine, no need to switch just for speed. Sometimes HTTP proxies can be surprisingly snappy if setup right, lol.

For most cases, pick SOCKS5 if you need better speed and support for multiple protocols, especially for P2P or apps beyond just browsing. A solid tip is to test both on your setup with a small test traffic before deciding. ymmv but running quick benchmarks with curl or similar tools can help you see real differences fast.

Careful with just guessing which proxy to pick, always test them first. Sometimes HTTP proxies can surprise you with speed if configured right, so do a small test run before making the switch permanent.

Most people blindly pick SOCKS5 thinking it's always faster but sometimes HTTP proxies hit 50% faster in real-world tests, so don't forget to test on your specific setup.

Haha, I swear SOCKS5 is like the Swiss Army knife of proxies but don't sleep on HTTPs, sometimes they are just faster in certain cases, especially when they are well optimized for a specific task. I've seen setups where HTTP proxies outperform SOCKS5, so always test on ur own gear before jumping to conclusions.

haha, yeah totally, guessing is like gambling with proxies lol. I mean, sometimes what works for someone else is totally different for you, so gotta test and see what's faster or more stable in your setup. Can't just rely on hearsay, ymmv and all that.
