So I was messing around with resource page link building last week thinking it's a solid white hat move right? Like find legit pages pitch your stuff they add you boom traffic easy peasy. But smh its not that simple. Some of these pages are dead or super niche now and others are just spammy as hell. I got a few placements but most just ignored me or took forever to reply. Then I found this one site looked legit but turns out they were just scraping links from other places and my link got buried in a ton of spammy junk. So now I'm thinking how do you actually vet these pages before wasting time? Or do you just gotta spam every one and hope for the best? Anyone else deal with this or find a way to not waste hours on dead or shady pages?
 
Yeah, I feel ya, been down that rabbit hole. Now I spend a good chunk vetting sites with Ahrefs or SEMrush, checking for spammy backlinks or sudden drops in traffic. saves me a lot of time and headaches.
 
I kinda think you gotta get your hands dirty sometimes and just test a few, but I do agree vetting is key. Do you ever try reaching out on social media or forums to see if a site is legit before wasting time? That sometimes helps weed out the spammy ones quick.
 
Been doing this 3 years now and honestly, I swear by looking at the spam score in Ahrefs, like under 10% is a safe bet. I also check the referring domains - if they're all spammy or very low quality, I skip. Doing this saved me from wasting hours on dead or shady sites more times than I can count
 
That's a decent start but honestly, those tools only show part of the story. You gotta manually scroll through the site and see if it's got a real presence or just spammy junk. Don't rely 100% on the data, eyeballs still matter. ymmv.
 
Hands dirty but gotta have a system to vet fast, not just hope. Automation tools like SEMrush or Moz can filter out dead/spammy sites quick.

Like, scroll thru the site, check for recent activity, see if they got legit content or just scraped junk. Do people even do that or just spam and hope for the best? Smh.
 
ok so i once got burned trying to build links on resource pages that looked legit. Turns out, a lot of those pages are now heavily monitored or even penalized. Always a risk of ending up with a backlink profile that looks spammy in the eyes of Google
 
just my 2 cents, u should try using ahrefs or SEMrush to vet those resource pages first, see their link profile and traffic. save u from wasting time on risky ones that might get penalized later.
 
Yep, saw that happen firsthand. In a test, I built on 50 resource pages and about 12 got deindexed within 2 months. It's like playing Russian roulette with your backlinks sometimes.
 
Definitely agree, tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush are a must, but don't forget to check historical data too. I've seen pages that look good now but have been spammed or deindexed in the past. better safe than sorry, imo.
 
bruh, exactly, that's the sneaky part, what looks good today might be a sinking ship tomorrow, always gotta dig into history not just the surface
