Proxy APIs vs Proxy Lists, the ultimate showdown

Proxy APIs vs Proxy Lists, the ultimate showdown

So I've been messing around with different proxy providers lately trying to figure out if I should stick to APIs or just go old school with lists. Like, API providers promise you this fancy real-time stuff, you know, automatic rotation, health checks, all that jazz but man it usually comes with a price tag that makes your wallet cry. Then you got the good ol' proxy lists, which are cheaper but you gotta do all the work yourself, scraping, updating, praying they're still alive when you need em. I've tried both and honestly, API proxies are kinda like dating a rich person - smooth, easy, but you pay for it. Lists are more like dating a broke artist, risky but maybe more fun if you don't mind the constant spam of dead proxies and manual refreshes. Anyone got a preferred method, or are you just flipping a coin every time you need proxies? I mean, I guess it's about what's more annoying, paying for convenience or wasting time? Smh, what you all use and why.

Careful with saying "proxies promise you this fancy real-time stuff", API proxies don't necessarily promise real-time rotation or health checks out of the box, that's more about the provider's setup and features. You usually gotta pay extra or choose a premium plan for those perks. Been down that road and sometimes the cheaper APIs can be just as unreliable as free lists if you're not careful.

Just my 2 cents, but that kinda makes it sound like lists are the cheap thrill that's more work but maybe worth it if you're into the grind. API proxies are definitely easier but yeah, the cost adds up quick. Depends if you value your time or your wallet more, I guess.

Yeah exactly, most of the time those real-time features and auto rotation come as premium add-ons or higher-tier plans which jacks up the cost big time. So you gotta decide if the convenience is worth the extra bucks or if you're fine with doing some manual work and saving cash. I've found for most small to medium stuff, sticking with cheaper lists and managing them myself isn't too bad if you got the time and patience.

Proxy APIs are just a fancy buzzword for laziness, imo. Sure, they make it easier to switch proxies on the fly but they come with a lag and often more expensive da. Proxy lists are raw but they give you control, which I prefer even if it's more manual. Both have their place but claiming one is better than the other is just oversimplifying.

Proxy APIs are quick but sometimes buggy, especially if they're free or cheap. Proxy lists are clunky but solid once you get them running right. Depends if you want convenience or control.

I actually think proxy lists can be more reliable if you set up a small script to rotate them automatically. Just keep a local file with fresh proxies and refresh it periodically, so you avoid the lag and bugs that come with many API providers. That way you get control without sacrificing too much convenience.

3 is better if you automate proxy list refreshes with a script, keeps it more reliable rn. Have you tried that?

been doing this 3 years, and honestly I stay away from proxy APIs. too many bugs, inconsistent speed, and you're at their mercy. proxy lists can be annoying but I trust them more when I automate refreshes

nah, I actually tried that once, but the proxies I got from a script still had dead ones sometimes. Ended up just switching to a fresh list manually, bruh.

Thanks for the tips and thoughts guys, appreciate it. Yeah, setting up a good script for proxy lists can totally save your bacon if you keep it fresh and automate the rotation. As for API lag, smh, just gotta pick a solid provider and hope they keep their stuff tight.

honestly, I used to think proxy lists were king until I tried a proxy API just for shits and gigs. Switched to it and realized how much easier it was to automate things without manually updating a list every damn day. Made my life a little less annoying, ymmv.

bruh, if u wanna go all-in, check out Oxylabs proxy API. super smooth, automatic updates, no mess. fwiw, it's what I use atm and it's legit

bruh, honestly, proxy lists might be more reliable in some cases since u don't gotta rely on a third party API and u can pick ur proxies manually but then again, automation is a dream so. kinda depends what u value more.

yo, OP, u really think one is better than the other? I mean, depends on ur needs. proxy API for automation, proxy lists for control, fam. which u runnin more often? lol

just my 2 cents, used proxy lists a while back when I was tight on cash, but switched to API later when I got more serious. had a buddy swear by API since he's all about automation. honestly, just depends on if u wanna mess with configs or let it run smooth.

3 years ago, I ran 10+ proxies thru API daily, and it was a nightmare when the API went down, had to scramble for backups. never relied on just 1 method since then, always a mix.
