Free VPNs used to be simple, now it's all shady deals

ugh remember free VPNs back in the day when they just. worked? no hidden stuff. now its all selling your data and weird ads popping up everywhere. i trusted them before but now im kinda sketched out. miss when they were just simple privacy tools you know? feels like the "free" ones just sell more of your info. makes me think maybe paying for a real one is worth it just to not stress about it. tbh its wild how much its changed and not in a good way.

u right fam, its crazy how shady it got. u think paying for a legit VPN actually stops all that or is it still risky?

last month i signed up for a paid VPN and honestly it felt better, like at least they claim to respect privacy but smh, u never really know if they sell ur data too. i guess paying might cut down on the shady ads and popups but still gotta trust they keep their word. anyway, nothing's 100% safe in this game, just try to pick the lesser evil. keep it real.

just my 2 cents, yeah I feel u. I used a free VPN ages ago and it was fine but then u start noticing weird ads and data leaks, so I switched to a paid one and honestly it's been a lot more chill. still gotta be careful tho, u never really know 100% if they sell ur data

always read the privacy policy before trusting any VPN, even paid ones, ymmv. those weird ads and data selling? kinda a red flag.

Yep exactly, it's wild how much they've changed. Also, just a quick correction - it's "now it's all selling your data and weird ads popping up everywhere" not "used to be simple." People forget that most free VPNs have always kinda been sketchy, just now it's more obvious.

Have you noticed that like 80% of free VPNs now have some kinda invasive ads? lol, its like they gotta pay the bills somehow. kinda crazy how quick they went from simple privacy tools to data mines. I wonder if the paid ones really do a better job at keeping us safe or if they just hide their stuff better.

yeah, exactly. honestly if u wanna avoid all that nonsense, just go for a paid VPN like expressvpn or nord. rn, they're the safer bet, no shady data selling or weird ads. might be worth the extra bucks to keep your privacy intact.

I gotta disagree. Free VPNs have been shady from the start, just more people now are realizing it. The free ones often sell your data or inject ads. ymmv, but I'd stay clear unless you wanna risk your privacy.

i gotta disagree with the "disagree" part. Free VPNs have always been sketchy, just more people are catching on now. I tried a few years back and ended up with my data sold to third parties. No thanks, lol.

spot on. i'd add if you really need a free VPN, check out ones with open source code like ProtonVPN. at least you can see what they're doin and trust it more. legit better than the shady free stuff.

Last month I tried a free VPN and it was a total mess, slow as hell and full of popups. Honestly, rn I just stick with paid ones or open source like ProtonVPN, way safer and more legit. The shady free stuff ain't worth the headache fam.

ngl appreciate the input guys, for real. yeah, most free VPNs are shady from the jump, but it's wild how much more attention they get now. if you wanna stay safe, just use legit paid ones or Tor. stay chill and surf smart out there. peace!
