just wanted to share some real test data from that free VPN everyone's always talking about. first the speed results were kinda wild - i have a 100 mbps connection but only got like 15-20 on their US server. okay for basic browsing but total garbage for streaming or torrenting. the real kicker though is their privacy stuff. checked their policy and yeah they log everything and sell your data to third parties. did a quick packet capture too and saw weird connections even when i wasn't browsing. idk if people get that free vpns make money selling your info not just ads. also there are hidden costs, features locked behind paywalls and if you want good speeds you have to upgrade which like defeats the whole free point. speeds for streaming/torrenting are so all over the place i wouldn't trust it for anything important. tbh a lot of these free ones just funnel your data to sketchy places. better off just paying a few bucks for a proper vpn that actually respects privacy.

Careful with free VPNs, they can be more trouble than they're worth. I used one for a bit and saw weird data leaks too, turned out it was logging everything. Ever tried setting up a paid VPN that actually keeps logs? I found some decent options that don't drain ur speed or sell ur data.

Yeah, that's the main issue. Most free VPNs are just shady middlemen, selling your data to make money. Better off just investing in a paid one if you want real privacy.

Last month I tested a free VPN and got like 10-15 mbps on a 100 mbps line, so yea speeds are garbage for anything real. And those logs? Always.

man different angle: yeah but some ppl just want quick fix, not heavy duty stuff. for casual browsing or a one-time thing, free might be enough. but yeah, if u want serious privacy or good speeds, paid is the way.

Are you sure that's the main problem? I've seen some paid VPNs that also choke on streaming and torrenting when servers get crowded, so maybe it's just the nature of free ones being more unstable. idk, maybe some free VPNs are decent for light stuff but yeah, overall, I wouldn't trust them for anything serious

last year i tried a free vpn for a project, got similar slow speeds and weird data leaks. u ever seen those weird "test" connections even when not browsing? makes me wonder if people really trust any free stuff anymore.

Yeah, exactly. Free VPNs often just bait you in with decent speeds for a bit then hit you with all the limitations. Better to just pick a legit paid one if you care about your privacy and consistent speeds.

ok so you really think some free VPNs are okay for "light stuff" and that's it? I've used a few that worked fine for simple browsing but got zero trust for anything sensitive or important. Plus, the data leaks and weird connections I saw? Nah, they're not worth the risk, even for light use lol.

ngl I actually tried a free VPN once and it was worse than nothing. speeds were sluggish, and I kept getting random disconnects. ended up just using a legit paid one after, way more reliable and private. totally not worth risking your data for a few extra MBs of speed.

Honestly, I think a lot of folks just wanna believe free means safe, but it's usually the opposite. gotta trust paid options for anything serious, afaik. That quick cheap fix ain't worth the risks.

haha yeah I tried a free one too, speeds were so bad I felt like I was back in dial-up days. always caught weird DNS redirects and weird ads popping up too. pay for privacy or just accept being a data farm I guess.
