WireGuard on mobile battery impact, thoughts?

so ive been messing around with wireguard on my phone lately and ngl the battery drain feels kinda noticeable but not terrible? like its def better than openvpn but i still wonder if its using too much juice or just how it runs in the background. anyone else try it and see the same thing? sometimes i turn it on just for streaming or torrents but when i forget to turn it off it feels like my battery dies faster. guess it depends on the phone too but curious if thats normal or maybe some settings would help. security wise wireguard feels sleek but yeah battery impact is a real thing for mobile. just sharing thoughts, maybe someone has a trick or a good setup to cut the drain. peace out gotta finish lunch and get back to work but this vpn stuff keeps my brain busy

Hey, quick thing, it's probably better to say "gotta finish lunch and get back to work" without the "peace out", sounds a little out of place with the rest of your post. As for the battery drain, yeah, WireGuard is usually pretty lightweight but it can still eat some juice depending on your device and how often it reconnects. I've noticed on older phones that background activity for any VPN can boost battery use a bit. Maybe messing with the app's settings or toggling it only when needed could help save some power.

WireGuard's pretty light but yeah, it can still drain battery if it runs in the background too long, maybe tweak app permissions or disable it when not needed.

last month i was messing around with wireguard too and yeah, the battery impact was kinda noticeable but not crazy. i think it depends on how long it stays connected in the background and maybe some phones handle it better than others. i just turn it off when not streaming or torrenting, helps save juice. maybe some apps let you limit background activity better? ymmv tho.

careful with just saving stuff for later, sometimes these tips or tricks can slip your mind. better to jot down a quick note or set a reminder, so you don't forget when you actually need it.

Back when I used wireguard on my old phone, I noticed it chewed battery more when I left it running all day. I wonder if the background activity or some settings are causing it to stay more active than it

disagree, it's not really about security feel, more about how the app runs in the background. some phones drain more no matter what, but settings can help a lot.

Turn off "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and disable auto-start in app settings. that helped my battery drain quite a bit. might be worth a shot.

tbh spot on. I'd also try some tools like NetGuard or GlassWire to see what's really eating your battery when VPN is on. They can show you if some app or background process is being a battery hog. Might help you tweak things better.

You might wanna try using TinyBattery or GSam Battery Monitor to actually see what's eating your juice when WireGuard is active, imo most folks just guess but these give real data.
