So I just did a quick test on a VPN I've been eyeballing (privatevpn, by the way) and wanted to share my results. I used speedtest.net and tested from my location (US) to a couple of different servers. On my base internet (100 Mbps down, 10 up), I got 94 Mbps down and 9.5 up without VPN. With VPN connected to a US server, I saw around 70 Mbps down and 8.8 up. Not bad for a VPN, considering the encryption overhead. Connecting to a UK server dropped me to 65 Mbps down, which is still pretty decent for streaming or gaming. Latency increased a bit but stayed manageable - around 60ms to my usual servers, which isn't noticeable in games. Streaming Netflix was smooth on US servers, no lag or buffering. Torrenting was a breeze too, did a test download at around 50 Mbps on the US server, so the VPN isn't throttling much. Overall, these numbers tell me this VPN is solid for everyday use, especially for streaming and torrenting. ymmv, but from my testing, it holds up well. Definitely a good option if you're trying to get decent speed without sacrificing privacy.

If you really wanna see if that VPN is good rn, try testing on different days and times. VPN speeds can fluctuate a lot based on server load and network congestion. Sometimes those numbers can look solid one day and dip the next, so do a few tests over a week to get a real feel.

Careful with using speed tests as the only metric, those can be kinda misleading. Always check real-world performance like streaming or gaming experience, not just the numbers. careful with that, sometimes even if it feels smooth, there could be hidden bottlenecks or packet loss. speed test numbers can tell u more than just how it feels, lol. but yeah, if it works for ur stuff, good enough

Appreciate the tips, guys. Yeah, I know speed tests are just a snapshot, I usually do multiple runs and check actual streaming and gaming too. UK servers do seem to take a hit, but if it's smooth for streaming and gaming, I'm happy. Will keep testing at different times tho.

Been doing this 3 years now and honestly, for quick and reliable VPN speed tests I swear by Speedtest.net by Ookla. afaik it's pretty accurate and easy to use. Sometimes I use Fast.com from Netflix too, but Speedtest is my go-to for detailed results.

Last month I ran a bunch of VPN speed tests and honestly I found Speedtest.net can be pretty misleading sometimes, especially with certain providers. I tend to rely more on custom server checks using curl commands or even just ping tests from my VPS. A lot of these apps, imo, just don't tell the real story especially with VPNs that throttle or limit speeds. So yeah, I'd say test with a grain of salt and do some manual checks too

try testing ur VPN speed at different times of day bruh, it can change a lot. also, check multiple servers in different regions, not just one spot. lol

just my 2 cents, but you might wanna fix the title. saying "speed test results I just ran, sharing what I found" is kinda redundant. maybe just call it "VPN speed test results" next time, no need to repeat yourself.

disagree, I think sometimes my VPN actually stays pretty consistent depending on the server, ymmv but I'd say give it a shot before switching things up.
