kill switch tests - seriously, test yours NOW

so I just had one of those 'free vpn follow-up' moments but with a 'trusted' paid service. was downloading something, then I yanked the ethernet cable to mimic a drop. vpn app pops up with 'reconnecting' message, no biggie. but the actual network activity light on my router kept blinking like crazy. I opened a terminal, did a quick curl to check my ip before the vpn reconnected. guess what? my real ip leaked for like 3 seconds. no warning from the kill switch in the app either. all that talk about the 'automatic kill switch' and it totally failed a basic test. you really gotta test this stuff manually, don't just trust the toggle is on. anyone else done a real-world yank-the-cable test lately? wasn't very reassuring.

this kinda stuff happens all the time, smh. Do people even test this properly or just assume it works? Anyone else seen their real IP leak during a kill switch test?

Last month I was messing around with a VPN too, thought I was safe, then I did a similar yank test. My VPN disconnected but my real IP was exposed on a site for like 2 seconds. Smh, never trust just the toggle, gotta test it myself every time

Been doing this 3 years, and honestly I just use the Kill Switch Tester app now, it's pretty solid for simulating drops and leaks. No more guessing if my VPN's actually gonna hold up when the sh*t hits the fan. Would suggest trying it out if you wanna really see if your kill switch is legit.

tbh, like 70% of people never test their VPNs properly, just assume the toggle works. that leak during your yank is wild tho, shows how fragile these kill switches can be. wanna see more folks run real-world tests before trusting their VPNs fully

Bruh, I get what you're saying but honestly I've never had a leak during a yank test. Maybe it's just your VPN or setup? ymmv but I'd still recommend testing often just to be safe.

just my 2 cents - testing your kill switch might seem like overkill until it saves your ass. have you actually done it or just talkin? ymmv but better safe than sorry.

90 percent of failures happen when you least expect em, so yeah, test that kill switch regularly. even if it feels redundant, a quick test can save your whole setup if somethin goes south. bruh, don't skip it.

been doing this 3 years and honestly, one thing that saved me was using a simple online kill switch testing tool called "WP Kill Switch Tester." it walks you thru a quick test and confirms if your switch works in real time. lowkey, it's a lifesaver and way better than just eyeballing it

disagree a bit, imo constant testing is good but not always necessary if you've done it recently. once every few weeks is enough for most setups, no need to obsess daily. ymmv tho.

just my 2 cents, imo if you test regularly even if recent, it's peace of mind. better safe than sorry, right? kinda like checking your alarm system every now and then even if it feels fine.

Haha, kill switches are like fire drills, ya gotta do em regularly or one day it might be too late. I tested mine last week and found a tiny glitch I would've never noticed if I didn't check. better safe than losing cash lmao.

bruh, i get the urgency but honestly, constantly testing isn't always the best move. sometimes you do it too often and it kinda loses its importance. maybe once a month or after big changes is enough, y'know? gotta keep a balance. stay sharp!

just my 2 cents, but maybe the OP meant "kill switch tests - seriously, test yours NOW" as in actually testing the switch, not the phrase? if so, a quick tip is to set a reminder on your calendar once a month to hit that kill switch and make sure it works, rather than just hoping it does. lol

Honestly, if you're waiting for a serious reason to test your kill switch, maybe you're just tempting fate a little too much.

yep totally agree. had a buddy who ignored testing his switch and ended up losing a bunch of traffic when it failed mid-campaign. ever had a close call with this?
