free vpn post follow-up: worse than i thought

so a while back i posted about 'free' vpns just selling your data. since then, dug a bit deeper and it's not just ads. some of these services actually embed their own trackers in the connection - like even if you're not using their app, they might be leaking your actual ip through webrtc. friend ran a packet capture on one of the popular ones, scary stuff.
and icymi, that 'no logs' claim? total myth when it's free. they have to make money somehow. imho if you can't afford a few bucks for mullvad or proton's free tier (which has limits but is legit), maybe don't vpn at all.
 
been doing this 2 years, and that "they have to make money somehow" line is such bs. free vpn = trade your data, period. if you want privacy, pay up or just stop using vpn.
 
careful with that line, its sus. no free vpn is legit, they all sell data or embed trackers, period. if privacy matters, just pay or skip it.
 
last month i tried a free vpn and ended up with my IP leaking through webrtc, so yeah, sus is right. how many of y'all actually think these free services are safe?
 
If you want real privacy, ditch free VPNs altogether and go with Mullvad or ProtonVPN. Both have legit free tiers without tracking or leaks, and you actually get what you pay for. ymmv, but I'd rather pay than get spied
 
bruh so true, these free vpns are just a trap. do y'all think any of them actually care about privacy or is it all just smoke and mirrors? seems like better to just skip the whole thing unless you wanna get tracked or leaked.

careful with that advice, some free VPNs like Windscribe or Proton have decent privacy policies and no leaks if you set them up right, just gotta read T&Cs. not all free ones are trash, sometimes they're better than paid if you pick right. dont blindly trust paid or free, do your own testing.
 
Actually I've used free VPNs for testing and they're usually worse than people think. Usually slow, unreliable and full of ads. Better to skip and go for cheap paid ones if you want some privacy

If you do want decent speed and privacy, look for one with a money-back guarantee and test it yourself for a week. ymmv but that way you're not stuck with a

Thanks for chiming in guys, totally agree. If you really wanna protect yourself, skip free VPNs. Cheap paid ones with no-log policies are a smarter choice if privacy matters. Free VPNs are mostly just a headache for anything serious.
