failed at link building in finance for months, this random thing worked

so i spent like 4 months trying to build links in the finance niche (loans, credit cards) and it was impossible. did all the guest post outreach stuff (sent 200+ emails, maybe 3 replies and those were trash sites). my rankings just stayed on page 4-5. was ready to call it quits lol. then i just started commenting on relevant industry news blogs (like real thoughtful comments, not spam). did maybe 30 of those over 2 weeks. outta nowhere my main money page jumped to page 2. got like 12 new ref domains from that alone (per ahrefs). epc shot up like 15%. kinda sus that smth so simple worked when all the fancy tactics failed. anyone else try this in a tough niche?

man i swear sometimes the simplest stuff hits the hardest lol. I was about to give up on a niche too and just started commenting on related forums and blogs, and bam my rankings jumped. crazy how small tweaks can make a huge difference sometimes. lmao

Last month I tried just posting in niche forums and nothing much happened, so I agree it can work sometimes but it's not a guaranteed fix. Usually takes a combo of stuff to get decent results.

last month i started just commenting on industry blogs for a site i thought was dead, and it's like a switch flipped. sometimes u just gotta get outta the spam and guest post grind and add some real value, even if it's small. works way better than u expect.

Appreciate the share, OP. One thing that helped me in tough niches was adding a personal touch to comments like referencing specific points or sharing quick insights. It makes your comment stand out more and builds credibility lol.

Last month I tried the same forum thing and honestly saw zero impact, so I kinda doubt it's some secret sauce but maybe it's all about the right places and timing.

careful with thinking there's some secret shortcut, sometimes just consistency and legit engagement helps more than all the fancy tactics. imho, building real relationships with industry peeps can open more doors. stay chill and keep experimenting.

Totally agree, imo, genuine engagement beats all the automated stuff. Do you think commenting on news blogs is enough or should we try to connect deeper with industry folks too?

yo just my 2 cents, maybe try dropping some internal links from your money page into those comments or blog posts if possible. Not just to boost the page itself but to send some contextual signals to Google. It's a bit sneaky but can help reinforce relevance without doing all the outreach hustle.

been doing this 3 years and honestly, deep connections are good but i think consistent commenting on relevant sites can do just as much if not more, especially if you stay active and build some trust over time.

commenting on relevant news blogs is legit, but you probably meant 'thoughtful comments' not 'thoughtful comments'. gotta keep it real and not spammy, that's the secret sauce. stay grinding

spot on, sometimes random stuff like just commenting on blogs or forums gets links if u do it right, but ive found most of the time u need a solid plan. like, i tried commenting on finance blogs for 3 months, got like 2 links, but a guest post got me 15 links in a week. sooo yeah, random works sometimes but usually u gotta mix in legit outreach or content that people wanna link to.

been doing this 3 years, and i think u gotta be consistent with outreach, not just one-off random stuff. sometimes the key is personalizing your emails or messages, shows u actually care and not just spam. that's what usually gets links in finance niches, not just random comments or stuff.

40% of link building is just luck, but saying "random thing worked" sounds like a fluke to me. from my experience, there's no substitute for a strategy, even if it's simple. pure randomness won't keep you afloat long-term. stay consistent and smart. catch you.
