DR/DA metrics - do they really matter that much?

Hey guys, so I just got into this whole link building thing and honestly I'm kinda confused about these DR and DA scores. Like I see a site with a DR of 20 and another with 50 and I'm wondering, does it really matter? I mean, I've been trying to score backlinks from what looks like high DR sites but then I hear some folks say those scores are kinda pointless or at least not super reliable. I checked a few of my backlinks and some with high DR don't seem to give me much traffic or ranking bump, while some kinda low DR sites seem to help more than I thought. Is it just a vanity metric or should I be chasing these numbers? Also, I've read stuff about how some black hat tactics boost these scores quick but don't really help rankings long term. So I guess my question is, how do you guys view these metrics? Do they matter for real SEO or just a rough guide? Curious to hear what's worked for y'all.

You ever chase a high DR backlink and get nothing? I did that once, wasted time, but then I found a lower DR site that brought steady traffic. YMMV, but I think these scores are more of a vanity than a real ranking factor

sounds like you're already figuring out the truth, those scores are kinda like fake IDs. they might help a little but not the real deal. focus on relevance and traffic, not just numbers.

Haha, linking high DR sites is kinda like chasing shiny objects, right? I remember building a bunch of backlinks from sites with killer DR, but the traffic was dead quiet. Once I started paying more attention to relevance and actual engagement, things shifted.

Are you saying relevance and traffic matter more than DR or DA? imho totally. Those scores can be manipulated or be irrelevant if the link doesn't make sense for your niche.

different angle: sometimes chasing DR/DA is like trying to catch smoke, but if you really wanna get more out of backlinks, focus on content relevance and user engagement. those metrics can help guide, but the real juice is in making links that your audience actually cares about. if the site is a good fit, the traffic and rankings will follow, no need to obsess over the numbers alone.
