VPN vs proxy when to use which for privacy

so i posted about vpn for privacy before but wanted to clarify when u should actually use a vpn vs a proxy. like, proxies are kinda just hiding ur ip for quick stuff but no real encryption or privacy. vpn on the other hand, encrypts everything and protects ur data, which is way better if privacy is ur main concern. but vpn can slow down ur speed sometimes, especially if server is far. proxies are faster but super insecure if u care about privacy. so i guess if u just wanna unblock stuff quick and not much privacy, proxies are fine. but if u want actual privacy and security, go vpn. curious if anyone else has clear experiences on when to choose one over the other?

I'd say if privacy matters, always go vpn, proxies just too flaky and insecure for anything sensitive. if speed is key and privacy isn't top concern, proxies can be okay but don't trust em for real security. always test different vpn servers for best speed, not all are slow.

disagree, if u want a solid vpn, check out nordvpn, they got good encryption and decent speeds even on long distances, proxies just a quick fix not for real privacy.

Careful with just assuming all servers are the same, rn it's more about the location and load, not all VPNs handle traffic equally. ever tried using some tools like speedtest.net to pick the fastest server? might save u some frustration when speeds are critical.

actually, choosing the fastest server is key, but also watch for the load, not just location. sometimes a nearby slow server beats a fast but overloaded one. speedtest tools help but don't always tell the whole story.

Spot on. I'd add, if u care about privacy but don't wanna slow down too much, look for VPNs with obfuscation features, especially if u r in a restrictive country or using ppv.

bruh, good points on speedtest and server load. definitely a thing, u gotta pick a good vpn with decent servers if privacy matters. proxies are just quick fixes, not for real privacy, agreed. thx for the input.

bruh, just a heads up, a proxy isn't really a privacy tool like a VPN. proxies just hide your IP but don't encrypt your traffic, so VPNs are way better if you care about actual privacy. lol

A proxy might hide your IP but if you need actual privacy, a VPN's encryption could be overkill, ymmv.

been doing this 3 years and honestly, for simple privacy I just run with NordVPN. proxies are okay for quick IP hide but if you want encryption and real privacy, VPNs like Nord or Surfshark are worth it imo. lowkey, proxies are just basic, VPNs actually secure your traffic.

spot on, proxies are just IP spinners, not privacy shields. always go with a VPN if you want actual privacy protection.

just my 2 cents, but do u think proxies can be enough for quick stuff like bypassing region blocks or just hiding ur IP for casual browsing or is encryption really necessary?

u really think proxies are enough for privacy bruh? they just hide ur IP, not protect ur data. if privacy matters, VPNs all day lol.
