yo i talked about VPNs and gaming earlier but i just stumbled on somethin crazy. tried a few different providers and protocols and like some actually lowered my ping? mostly WireGuard ones but a couple OpenVPN setups worked too. i was totally gonna call BS but it's for real. no joke my ping went down 10-15ms on certain servers. streaming and torrenting were fine too zero lag spikes. so if you're curious def play around with protocols see what happens but don't write off VPNs for gaming just yet. there's some legit benefit now lol bruh never thought id say VPNs and good ping in the same breath
 
yep, exactly, VPNs with the right server and protocol can sometimes route you better, especially if your ISP's peering's shitty. WireGuard's lighter and faster, so it makes sense it works better for gaming. OpenVPN can be hit or miss but yeah, it can help too.
 
I can totally relate, last month I was messing around with a VPN for gaming and found a server that actually cut my ping in half on a couple of CS:GO servers. I was stunned. It's crazy how sometimes your ISP's routing is just crap and a VPN can sneak around that. I swear, I didn't expect to see any real difference but here we are.
 
i was totally gonna call BS but it's for real, but honestly i think it's more luck than anything. most of the time VPNs just add latency, not reduce it. if you get a random server that routes better, sure, you might see a drop but i wouldn't count on it being consistent or scalable long-term. most of the time you're better optimizing your connection directly, not relying on a VPN to fix bad routing. data don't lie, and in most cases, VPNs are just an extra hop. trust me, seen enough of this to call it a fluke most of the time. stay
 
Yep exactly, I've tried it myself. I used a VPN called ExitLag and it made a noticeable difference in some games, especially when servers are far away. But it's not a guarantee, depends on your connection and server routes. Sometimes it even adds latency if the VPN isn't optimized.
 
Careful with that. I tried ExitLag too and it actually increased my ping most of the time. Seems ymmv, but don't rely on VPNs to fix ping issues all the time.
 
from what I've seen, around 50% of people say VPNs help with ping and the other half say it makes it worse. 2) honestly, it's hit or miss, depends on your ISP and the VPN server you pick. 3) I wouldn't trust VPNs to fix ping issues long term, they often just add more latency
 
bruh, from what I've seen most ppl say it only drops ping like 5-10% max if your route is crappy, but can also add 20-30ms if your VPN isn't well optimized or far from the server.
 
different angle: honestly, I tried a vpn once just to test and my ping shot up like 30ms, felt terrible. but then I switched to a nearby server and boom, cut my ping by 10-15. so yeah, it's all about the route, not just the vpn itself. won't lie, most of the time it's a gamble.
 
honestly, I think like 95% of the time a vpn just adds latency. I've tested dozens and usually it's a 20-50ms increase unless you happen to get super lucky with a nearby server. Don't buy into the myth that it magically lowers ping. Most of the time it just complicates the route.
 
careful with that, most of the time a vpn just adds latency, not drops it. gambles can go either way but dont expect it to be reliable for lower ping. often, u get better results just optimizing ur connection or playing on nearby servers.
 
last month I tried a VPN thinking it would lower ping for a game I was having issues with. Spoiler - it made it worse. People think VPNs are magic for ping but most of the time they just add latency unless you're trying to bypass local ISP throttling or something.
 
Ever try connecting to a VPN server close to the game server? I found that helps sometimes, instead of just picking any random location. If your VPN's far from the game's host, it'll just add lag.

Most of the time VPNs just screw up your ping unless you're super unlucky or your ISP is throttling. Wanna try a VPN, pick a server really close to the game server and see if it helps or makes it worse?
 
bruh, I've seen VPNs cut ping by like 10-20ms when they're close to your game server but most of the time they just add 30-50ms, lol
 
37ms is the average ping drop I saw when I used a VPN close to the game server, but mostly it just added 20-40ms lol. Anyone else notice that or just me?
 
actually think most of the time VPNs just add more latency unless you're lucky or got a super close server. seen a few cases where it helps but yeah mostly it just makes ping worse, not better.
